Jai Shroff is the Chairman & Group CEO of UPL Limited, a multinational manufacturer and distributor of agrochemicals that plays a crucial role in global food security. A renowned entrepreneur and leader in sustainable agricultural solutions and services, Shroff has successfully scaled UPL from a family-owned business to the most global company in India.

Under Jai’s leadership as CEO, UPL has grown to become the one of the most expansive companies in the global agricultural sector, with operations in over 130 countries, and over 14,000 products and solutions that cover all elements of the food system. He has driven this success by maintaining intimate relationships with customers around the world and investing in innovation backed by industry research.

Committed to strengthening global food security, Jai believes that agriculture can also play a crucial role in human and economic development and act as a catalyst for national security. To achieve this, he is a strong advocate for providing smart, affordable and profitable solutions to the global farming community.

An active voice on global development.

Jai has been invited participate in some of the world’s leading forums and policymaking platforms for the advancement of sustainable agriculture, including roles within the UN Climate Change Conference, United Nations General Assembly Week, the BRICS Business Forum, Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, QUAD Investors Network, Africa Food Systems Summit/AGRA, and Chatham House Environment Programme.

Jai has also developed close relationships within academic and research bodies internationally, most recently supporting the work of the Oxford India Centre for Sustainable Development at the University of Oxford, and is Chairman of Indian Institute of Management Rohtak. Mr Shroff is also actively involved in the global development agenda, including the World Economic Forum’s Grow Africa and Grow Asia initiatives, IFPRI’s Sustainable Agriculture and Global Food Security Initiative, WBCSD, Chicago Council, IGD and ICAR.

Jai currently Chairs the World Economic Forum’s Food Action Alliance, sits on the Governing Committee of the World Bank’s Water Resources Group, and launched the First Movers Coalition for Food in partnership with the Biden White House Administration and the World Economic Forum.

In 2024, Jai launched the OpenAg Foundation as a new non-profit organisation to catalyse sustainable agricultural interventions, work with governments to end world hunger, and focus on greater South-South co-operation.
